Beargrease cancelled, Gunflint Mail Run resurrected

Family questions hospital medication, pain management policies

School board back to considering four-day week
With ISD 166’s financial adviser recommending that the district avoid dipping into its fund balance any lower than the equivalent of 20 days of operation and the school heading that direction very quickly, the school board looked at budget reduction options at its January 17, 2012 regular meeting. School trust lands important in federal-state BWCAW land exchange
When Minnesota became a state in 1858, the federal government gave it sections 16 and 36 of every township, or their equivalent, so that the state could use the natural resources on that land to help pay for public education. This is known as school trust land. Full Story
CCLEP hires a coordinator
Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) received funding last fall for a part-time coordinator position for 2012. Virginia Danfelt was hired for this half-time position to handle administrative duties of the almost four-year-old nonprofit and assist the board in advancing their goals. Full Story

Family game night giveaway is back

Tax return assistance again offered locally
In 1985 Jane Mianowski and “Pappy” Wright began helping senior citizens with their federal income tax returns under the IRS/AARPsponsored program called Tax Councilors to the Elderly (TCE). They were joined in 1986 by Harriet Walsh and Thelma Hedstrom, who just retired from this program last year. Full Story
