I’ve had a lot of jobs over the years. My current job, as editor of the Cook County News-Herald, is the job I’ve held the longest. I’ve muddled along as an amateur editor for 12 years. And it’s my all-time favorite job, despite the fact that I have people angry with me on a regular basis. Full Story
Seeing through the mist
Our family had the chance this past July to spend an afternoon at Niagara Falls, and so we did what thousands of tourists do every year, we boarded the Maid of the Mist tour boat and cruised right up beneath the falls. Those of you who have been on it know that when it circles in right beneath Horseshoe Falls, you are surrounded by falling water. Full Story

Alpine Vikings take 1st and 2nd
The Duluth East girls and Cook County/Silver Bay Alpine Vikings have been sparring all season, trading first and second place finishes on a routine basis. Last week at Spirit Mountain, the Alpine Vikings girls took first place in the largest field of racers yet this year edging out Duluth East by another slim margin. Full Story
Vikes win four more for 15-1 record
With four games in six days, the Vikings boys’ basketball team had its work cut out for it, a tough task indeed! Although they won, it wasn’t always easy. Full Story
Vikings lose one, win two
The last time the Vikings faced the North East Range Nighthawks was during the Ely Christmas tournament and it wasn’t a good night for the Vikings as they lost by 25 points.
On Thursday, January 26, the Vikings traveled to Babbitt to face the Nighthawks again, and although they lost, it was a much better game. Full Story
