Photo by Mitch Dorr This year in economics class, Cook County High School seniors have been learning about the stock market and have been participating in the Minnesota Stock Market Simulation. Economics students in Mitch Dorr’s class have been participating in this state wide simulation for over 10 years now. This year, however, two of his teams finished second and third respectively in the final state rankings.

Seniors Matea Acero and Shauna Blake finished second in the state of Minnesota while seniors Madison Roy and Sara Carman along with junior Alyssa Martinson finished third in the state.

Students on both teams were invited to the BestPrep Stock Market Game awards ceremony, held on Tuesday, May 17 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis. The featured speaker at the luncheon was David MacLennan, the CEO of Cargill.

The economics students were unable to attend the ceremony as they were returning from the CCHS band trip to Cleveland. They received their certificate, T-shirt and an awards plaque for the classroom in the mail.

Dorr congratulated them on their efforts. He said, “Our students did a fantastic job in this simulation and even though they still have much to learn, they proved they could compete with anyone in the state.”
