In early May, the welding class students participated in a community service project on the property of North Shore Waste in Grand Marais.

Students spent the morning hours cleaning up the perimeter of the North Shore Waste property for owners Dustin Hansen and Barry Pederson. North Shore Waste was happy with the project and graciously donated $500 to the industrial arts program at CCHS.

Students involved in this community service project were Trace McQuatters, Jack Wieben, Jordyn Deschampe, Damian Zimmer, Ben Kurtz, Colton Thompson, Erik Lawler, Andrew Lashinski, Joe Semhric, Colton Furlong, Zach Buchheit, and Will Lamb.

The following week, the Industrial Arts woodworking class took a wood turning class at the North House Folk School. Instructor Angela Robins worked with students during three separate sessions in which students received 2½ hours of instruction on using the wood lathes at the folk school. Students all turned fresh birch and were able to make wood mallets and handcrafted whistles. It was a very productive day filled with a lot of learning.

Along with industrial arts teacher Mitch Dorr, the students taking part were Joe James, Noah Works, Wyatt Baker, David Blackburn, Zach Buchheit, Jayden Grivette, Laura Foster, Connor Franks, Ben Kurtz, Cody Leck, Danny Lewis, Jronald Tamanaha, Bruce Scheiblauer, Joey Scheiblauer, Everett Morawitz, and Jeffrey Pelletier.
