North Shore Storm runners fare well at Hibbing Rotary Invitational

Staff photos/Laurie Johnson The North Shore Storm Girls’ varsity finished 6th out of 16 teams at the October 6 Hibbing Rotary Cross Country meet held at the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course.

Louise Ramberg led the Storm with a 16th place finish. Ramberg recorded a time of 22 minutes, 49 seconds over the 5K (3.1 miles) course.

The next five Storm runners across the line were Maya McHugh (34th), Cedar Gordon (35th), Autumn Smith (36th), Kate Walsberg (62nd), and Isabel Schottenbauer, who placed 69th.

When adding up the team’s top five runners’ finishing places the Storm finished with 183 points. Duluth East won with a low score of 51 points.

The Storm boy’s varsity team placed 11th out of 19 teams with 281 points. Cloquet finished first with 33 points.

With Jake Paron on the sidelines, Noah Smith stepped up and led the boys’ team with a 12th place finish, crossing the line in 19 minutes and 5 seconds. Smith was followed by Will Surbaugh (38th), Brenden Seipke, (75th), Leif Anderson (77th), Mikael Overby (79th) and Sam Libby in 84th place.

The girls’ junior varsity (JV) placed 7th out of eight teams while the boys’ junior varsity finished 5th out of 13 teams.

Leading the girls’ JV was Robin Hendrickson in 35th place. Brooklyn Smith was right on her heels in 36th place; then it was Paige Gries (55th), Amelia Roth (56th), Hazel Babcock (42nd), Daphne Lacina (43rd), and Lucy Callender in 74th place to round out the team.

JC Holman was the first Storm junior high boy in 25th place. Not far behind were Kevin Viren (30th), Jron Tamanaha (31st), Jack Viren (42nd), Tate Crawford (49th), Andy Kern (62nd), Sam Meyer (114th), Trent Spry (117th), Jonah Schmidt (118th), David Blackburn (126th), and Lynden Bloomberg who finished 146th place.

The Storm girls’ junior high team finished fifth and the boys’ junior high team 15th.

Cecelia Chmelik placed 23rd to lead the junior high girls. Next Storm runners were Zoe Nonnemacher (39th), Ellen Callender (46th), Anna Hay (47th), Sidni Hendren (48th), Payton Dobin (53rd), Chloe Blackburn, (58th), Emma James (59th), Abbey Stoddard (64th), Amanda Haveri, (65th), Elsa Garry (71st), and Megan Larsen placed 72nd.

Justin Paron placed 81st to lead the boys’ junior high team. Levi Nelson was 84th, Tanner DeBoer (95th), Doran Acero (99th), Chance Kinstrand (110th) and Luca Pinnell (128th) rounded out the team’s places in the large field of runners.
