Memories of the Minnesota River mudflats Towards the end of summer there was a place in the river bottoms that all the kids from all the high schools in the cities seemed to know. It was a place in the Mississippi River bottoms in the cities, although few but me of the others knew that it was not the Mississippi, but the Minnesota River, because I paid attention to such things, and if you were young then all you knew was the airport and the great airplane runways over the river, and maybe Interstate 494, possibly Cedar Avenue.
