Memories of the Minnesota River mudflats Towards the end of summer there was a place in the river bottoms that all the kids from all the high schools in the cities seemed to know. It was a place in the Mississippi River bottoms in the cities, although few but me of the others knew that it was not the Mississippi, but the Minnesota River, because I paid attention to such things, and if you were young then all you knew was the airport and the great airplane runways over the river, and maybe Interstate 494, possibly Cedar Avenue.

They came to Gunflint Lodge to support their favorite racers and the Gunflint Trail Fire Department.

With the Fisherman’s Picnic right around the corner the tennis courts at the high school will be very busy as players prepare for the Fisherman’s Picnic tennis tournament. The three-day tourney will be held August 4-6 and will draw top female and male amateur singles and doubles players from all over the state.

After the first inning, Taconite led 1-0 over the Cook County/ Silver Bay Legion baseball team, but the boys from Aurora would only lead for a short time. Neither team scored in the second, but the Vikings erupted for ten runs in the third and added one in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 12-2 win.
