January 18, 1947 ~ October 1, 2024

Vickie passed peacefully following a long struggle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gene Stagg who passed in June of 2024. She is survived by her daughter Amie (Bob) Matthias and their daughters Brooke (Andy), Tory (Andrew), and Morgan. Their son, Ralph (Trish) and their children Aspen and Trent.

Vickie was an accomplished traveler, she took ‘the buss’ to many states to explore, visit extended family and see the USA. Home was always Grand Marais, and this community was where she always came back to. She was a wonderful friend, devoted big sister and a loving mother. She strove to be the best she could be, and was proud of her Scandinavian heritage.

She was devastated by the loss of their son Thomas Jason in 1991 in his 20th year due to a drunk driver. This kind of loss shapes so much of the ensuing years, where we witnessed the despair, courage and delight in the next generation of grandchildren and great grandchildren bring her back to herself. She will be missed and remembered for who she was in those tender years, that even the dementia couldn’t diminish.

We all shared in the loss of our dad Fred and sister Wanda in 2000, brothers Aaron in 2017 and David in 2022.

Our mother Char, sister Laurie and brother Alton remain, and cherish the many good times we had as well as those times of despair when we held each other and lifted our spirits often with inappropriate laughter.
