Staff photo Brian Larsen The Wednesday, April 3rd snowstorm, a significant spring weather event, caused the closing of Cook County schools and the early closing of most businesses. At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, my car was buried in the parking lot behind the paper, a stark reminder of the storm's impact on our daily lives. This is a picture of the car at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Schools were delayed for two hours on Thursday while the streets were opened by plow truck drivers. Grand Marais reported 12 inches of snow while Hovland came in with 15.2 inches. Winds gusted to 40 miles an hour and the snow was wet and heavy. Spring is here, but it sprung a snowy leak.
