Betty Schutte

In remembrance of our mom, Betty Schutte, who left us on February 28, 2023.
Betty was born May 2, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Barbara Bielawski. She graduated from Bowen High in 1959. She met Larry Schutte on a blind date and married in 1962. They were blessed with four children: Larry Jr, David, Michelle, and Doreen. In November 1971, they moved to Northern Minnesota, 15 miles northeast of Grand Marais. They operated Schuttes Garage. Betty loved being a mom and devoted herself to her children, whom she loved unconditionally. A trait she would pass on to her daughter, Doreen.
Betty worked at various restaurants as a waitress throughout Cook County. People loved her, and she loved people.
At Schutte’s Garage, she operated ‘Betty’s Pies and Donuts’ with help from her two daughters. She loved cooking, baking, and gardening. A trait she would pass on to her daughter Michelle. Doreen and her husband Steve moved Betty to Arizona to live near her two sons’ families. She was proud of her nine grandchildren. Jennifer, Marisa, Kamrie, Tabresa, Lance, Brayden, Samantha, Rachel and Steven.

Employed at the ‘Sleep Number,’ she was recognized and awarded top sales by corporate headquarters.
As a full-time grandma, Betty moved in and lived the rest of her life with her devoted daughter and her kind-hearted son-in-law Steve Shelafoe, sharing joy and happiness with her three Shelafoe grandchildren, Samatha, Rache, and Steven, whom she loved dearly.
Finally, Betty was promoted to great-grandmother when her two eldest granddaughters, Jennifer Crook and Marisa Garcia, blessed her with grandchildren: Wyatt, Walker, Westin, Allison, Haley, and John.
She is remembered and missed by all who love her.
