Yvonne A. Smith, 91, Grand Marais, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at North Shore Health.

Yvonne was born February 16, 1933 to Olin and Lucille (Bergquist) Anderson in Moose Lake and moved to Grand

Marais as a teenager. At a movie show, she met Lonnie Smith and they later married. Yvonne stayed at home taking care of their 4 children until the youngest went to school then she began working as a housekeeper at a motel.

She enjoyed dancing with Lonnie, picnics on the shore on Lake Superior, knitting, and picking berries. Yvonne also was known to have interesting pets over the years, including a skunk, miniature horses, a ferret, and even a baby deer brought by the Game Warden.

Yvonne was a member of Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and Royal Neighbors.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonny Smith; a son, Richard Smith She is survived by her sons; Lester (Barb), Guy (Nancy), and Lenny; daughter-in-law, Renae Smith; grandchildren Chad, Dean, Lisa, Lydia, Tyler, Zack, Travis, and Ashlee; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Grand Marais Tourist Park.
