Roger A. McDonald

The community is invited to the memorial service for Roger A. MacDonald, M.D. on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Roger was a family physician from 1948 to 1980s including 22 years in Cook County. When he retired from clinical practice, he moved to White Bear Lake and became associate director of Rural Physicians Associate Program, (RPAP) until the 1990’s. He returned to Grand Marais after retiring from teaching and embarked on a new career of writing. He chronicled three memoirs called the “Country Doc” stories which became published works.

Linda Jo Morris

Linda Jo Morris, 69 of Schroeder passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the North Shore Hospital, Grand Marais, MN. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Frank) Zaiger and Tammi (Averron) Matter, Grandchildren: Amanda Matter, Jeffrey Zaiger, Jeremy (Abi) Zaiger, Dylan Matter & Shane (Alyssa) Matter, Baby Wesley (due in April). Great Grandchildren Riley, MyKayla, Emmy and Baby Wesley (March 2024). Brothers Bill (Kate) Dalin, Tim (Laura) Dalin and nieces Bonnie and Katie. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 38 years, Wesley Morris in 2017, her Parents: Bonnie & Earl Arnold & Bill and Lois Dalin, grandparents and aunts and uncles. Linda was born in St. Croix, Wisconsin on May 1, 1954, to Bill and Bonnie (Lent) Dalin. She grew up and graduated from Forest Lake, MN in 1972. She married Wesley Morris on August 25, 1979, in Lutsen, MN and they made their home in Schroeder and for a few years in Wyoming, MN before coming back to Schroeder and the North Shore where they happily lived until Wes' death in 2017. Linda spent her last few years with her brother Bill and his wife, Kate, in Grand Marais along with her beloved Pups Mo and Gracie. She will be forever loved and missed but we know she is laughing and dancing up a storm in the arms of her beloved 'Wessie' once again. There will be a memorial service in the Spring and the memorials should be directed to the Arrowhead Animal Shelter in Grand Marais.

Lee Nelson Zopff

where Jocko coached the football team and taught at the High School. They enjoyed many years of attending games, including 3 Superbowls with the Minnesota Vikings, and making friends along the way. They owned Jocko’s Clearwater Lodge on the Gunflint Trail for many years and following Jocko’s early death, she ran the resort on her own for several years. Lee spent summers at her home on Leo Lake, where she hosted friends and family. Lee was an active member of the Gunflint Trail Historical Society and the Gunflint Trail Quilters; she volunteered at Chik-wauk Museum, Westminster Church, and Orchestra Hall. Lee was a wonderful wife, mother, businesswoman, grandmother, and friend. She was a talented baker, seamstress, knitter, quilter and enjoyed craft projects. Lee loved to support her grandchildren by attending events, games, Leone (Lee) Margaret Eloise Jaenson Nelson Zopff Age 94, of Minneapolis and the Gunflint Trail, passed away March 9, 2024. Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and husbands Jack Nelson and Fred Zopff. Lee was born in St. Cloud, MN, in 1930. She graduated from Tech High School and was named the Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes in 1949. Lee attended Gustavus Adolphus College where she met her husband, Jocko, who became a football coach. Their first residence was in Grand Marais concerts, and many birthday parties.
