Wherefrom Our County Names

Sometimes we get lucky. While reading in the whole volume of Minnesota Place Names from the Minnesota Historical Society for another column, I got intrigued by the various sources of the names of our counties. The original focus was the book, To Banish Forever, a history of the removal of the Ho-Chunk Winnebagos from the Mankato area. Now that I got excited about County names, that will be another column.
