Wildlife Matters
About two years ago, I wrote a column about migration (May 14, 2022) which included a summary of the annual migration of the eastern North American population of monarch butterflies to a location in Mexico which took a number of generations to complete. Then on Jan.28, 2023, my column included a paragraph about the major decline in monarch butterflies in North America.

Moving on
An Ode to Knees I’d like to focus on knees today, as they appear to be a limiting factor for me as well as many of my friends. I must admit, we’re no spring chickens, but we’re active and like to think of ourselves as young.

Wildlife Matters
It is quite common for the male of a species to be larger and heavier than the female. This also holds true for the entire deer family. Part of my examinations of deer, bear and moose carcasses involved recording both whole and field dressed weights of many of them. Vehicle impact, or other factors, sometimes prevented being able to obtain weights, especially whole weights.

CCCCH: NSH Board Blows It
Most of us do not have time to read everything that comes to our attention. That includes insufficient time to read all the communications from and about North Shore Health's (NSH') recent paroxysms.

COUNTY CONNECTIONS
The Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is a five-year roadmap for improving community health in Cook County and is being developed with community input in the coming months. The CHIP builds off the Community Health Assessment (CHA), which was developed for 20232027 last year, with input from a group of over 35 community members.

10 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY 15, 2014 v After three hours of questions from the Cook County North Shore Hospital Board to Administrator Kimber Wraalstad, the board asked Wraalstad to enter into negations with DSGW architects to draw plans for a remodel and renovation of the 16-bed hospital critical access hospital and 37-bed skilled nursing care center. v Money from two grants and $34,000 in donations will allow the Cook County Historical Society (CCHS) to accomplish several items on their wish list, said CCHS Director Carrie McHugh to the Cook County Commissioners on January 28, 2014 at the commissioners regular board meeting.
