Lepidopterists visit Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China in 1993

In April of 1993, I received a letter that a delegation of butterfly specialists and enthusiasts would travel to China under the auspices of the Citizen Ambassador Program of People to People International. The purpose was to meet and interact with Chinese scientific community members interested in butterfly systematics, evolution, ecology, and conservation. A follow-up letter stated that delegation members would be allowed to observe and collect butterfly specimens and participate in various meetings and presentations.

North House to Host Community Open House for New Welcome Center, September 19

It’s been a year of transformation on North House Folk School’s campus. From the moment the little yellow house took to the road, it’s taken many months and many hands to complete the Welcome Center, North House’s new building on Highway 61. Now, the finish line is in sight—the Welcome Center is officially opening to the public on Thursday, September 19, with a Community Open House from 5-7pm. It’s a day to celebrate the many Cook County residents who were involved in the building process and have helped frame the future of the school.
