Annual Memorial Weekend Veterans Celebration held

Under the leadership of Scott Benolken, a heartwarming tradition unfolds each year, inviting past and present members of the U.S. military to join in a memorable journey. Together, they traverse the back country roads of Cook County, either in their own off-road vehicles or in a vehicle from Cook County Tread Lightly's Off-Road Club, a community Benolken is proud to be a part of.

Tips for recreating in Bear Country

As lakes and trails become snow and ice free, recreation on the Superior National Forest (SNF) increases for adventurers of all ages to enjoy. Thus, SNF wildlife managers remind visitors to not only be considerate of other visitors but also the diverse wildlife species that call the SNF their home. This spring, learning and practicing Bear Aware principles while enjoying the SNF is important for both visitors and bears. Black bears are now active across the landscape, often with several cubs hungrily looking for food after a winter of hibernation.

Grand Marais Lions donate to Minnesota Children’s Press and the Letteracy Deck program

At a recent meeting, the Grand Marais Lions Club donated $2,500.00 to the Minnesota Children's Press and the Letteracy Deck program, which Anne Brataas created and runs. Upon receiving the gift, Brataas said, 'The Lions are helping make the second year of the Letteracy Deck program possible by funding 50 percent of our free stamps—international mail included.

We are a small, but dedicated, group of gardeners intent upon improving our own gardens, as well as contributing towards the beautification of our community. Perhaps you’ve seen the Memorial Rose Garden? That’s managed and maintained by the Grand Marais Garden Club! Maybe you’re looking forward to the bright burst of colorful blooms soon to appear in the town planters? Yes, that’s done by us! Have you been to the Annual Flower Show in July? Guess what? We do that too!

Volunteers Needed for Bike Safety Rodeo – Thursday, May 16

The Bike Safety Rodeo has become a much loved and anticipated annual event in Grand Marais, bringing families and children from across the county together to help kids learn how to bike safely. Each year this event is possible thanks to community volunteers and this year, we need you! Over twenty volunteers are needed to make this event happen and there are still many roles available.
