Cook County Public Health and Cook County Sheriff’s Department Launch Naloxone Leave Behind Program
While the Opioid epidemic continues to escalate in our community, devastating the lives of those that it impacts, it is only worsening with the rise of Fentanyl and Xylazine in the opioid supply. In the state of Minnesota, the opioid overdoses in 2021 were 1,354 fatalities, a 29 percent increase from 2020.
Warrant Resolution Day event
The 6th Judicial District, in collaboration with Cook County Public Health and Human Services and the Cook County Attorney, is hosting a warrant resolution event on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Cook County Courthouse. This will be the first time this event has ever happened in Cook County.
Applications for Health Care Foundation Grants Due May 1
Applications for the first round of 2024 North Shore Health Care Foundation (NSHCF) Community Health Grants, are due by 4 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2024. The North Shore Health Care Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit now celebrating its 31st year in Cook County, works to address gaps in health care and community health-related needs locally. The Foundation will award approximately $30,000 this year, to community organizations and programs that contribute to equitable health care and healthy living in Cook County through its semi-annual grant program. The deadline for the second and final round of 2024 NSHCF grant funding is Oct. 1.

Historical Reflections
10 YEARS AGO APRIL 19, 2014 v The Cook County Knowledge Bowl team traveled to the State Knowledge Bowl Tournament on Thursday, April 10, to face off with teams from around the region at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd. Coach April Wahlstrom was delighted with her team’s ninth-place finish at the state competition.

Cribbage Tournament The Bob Pratt Doubles Cribbage Tournament will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the Birch Terrace Supper Club. A $40 entry fee per team is required with a limit of 32 teams.
Arrowhead Animal Rescue purchases trailer for new animal shelter
Arrowhead Animal Rescue, a Cook County nonprofit dedicated to helping animals in need, has exciting news to share regarding a new animal shelter for the community. As many are aware, the previous animal shelter was removed from the Grand Marais Rec Park in 2021, and the county has been without an animal shelter since.
