The Gunflint Trail Historical Society welcomes the next Artist-In-Residence: Lauren Burton | July 25 – August 3

Lauren Burton is a painter from Knife River who creates colorful acrylic and watercolor scenes inspired by Minnesota’s North Shore. Working outdoors or from her own photos, she uses bold brushstrokes and a playful, energetic style to explore light, shadow, and movement in landscapes, architecture, and everyday life.

Grand Arts Festival draws robust crowds

Despite some damp weather, the Grand Marais Arts Festival was a resounding success, attracting over a thousand visitors. The festival, a testament to the vibrant local arts scene, was made possible in part by the support of Visit Cook County’s one percent event programs funding. It featured sixty juried artists, including a strong contingent of local talent. Notable among them were Gina Adams, Betsy Bowen, Mazzy Flynn, Marybeth Garmoe, Misha Martin, Nan Onkka, Mary Sannerud, Natalie Sjobanja, Cooper Ternes, Aleka Tomlinson, Emily Wick, and Bill Youmans.
