Grand Portage Rendezvous Days August 11-12

Are you looking for a fun, family-oriented adventure that is also free? Grand Portage National Monument invites you to attend its annual Rendezvous event this Friday and Saturday, August 11-12. Featuring over 250 re-enactors eager to share their enthusiasm about the late 18th/early 19th-century fur trade era of the Great Lakes region and the northwest, special presenters, workshops, and activities, this event will help you explore the history of the area and learn more about Grand Portage.

Lutsen Mountains has requested a deferral on the decision of the proposal to the U.S. Forest Service

The family that owns Lutsen Mountains recently submitted a letter to Superior National Forest Supervisor Thomas Hall asking for a deferral of a decision on the proposed expansion of the ski resort “onto 500 acres of Forest Service land that local Tribes retain rights to under the 1854 Treaty.”

Grand Marais City Council gets a primer on the legal use of cannabis by adults

Brian Larsen At the Grand Marais City Council meeting held at the end of June, City Councilors received information concerning the new law that will soon go into effect about the use of marijuana and its byproducts. Grand Marais Mayor Tracy Benson said she was at the League of Minnesota Cities Conference, joining with more than 700 folks from around the state, and a big topic of discussion was around the new cannabis legislation.

Rotarians from Thunder Bay and Duluth gather to celebrate the Outlaw Bridge

Brian Larsen When the United States and Canada couldn’t decide who was going to pay for a bridge over the Pigeon River that would connect the two countries, the Rotary clubs in Thunder Bay and Duluth agreed they would get together to plan, fund and build the bridge, and that’s just what they did in 19161917.
