North Shore Health Care Foundation becomes Vital North Foundation

The North Shore Health Care Foundation, a longstanding Cook County, MN 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has changed its name to Vital North Foundation. The goal of the name change is to better reflect the Foundation’s values and mission, and to distinguish the Foundation as separate from other established health care entities in Cook County.

Bridge to Health Survey seeks to find out “How healthy are we in the Northland?”

The 2025 Bridge to Health Survey is arriving in thousands of mailboxes across the Northland this month. This survey, which has been conducted every five years since 1995, seeks to answer the all-important question “How Healthy is the Northland?” The comprehensive survey includes questions related to physical and mental health, nutrition, exercise, tobacco and alcohol use, dental care, insurance coverage, access to care, access to internet, and social connection and belonging.

Essentia Health rolls out groundbreaking test for early Alzheimer’s detection

Innovative technology represents a shift in Alzheimer’s management from symptom relief to treating the underlying condition Essentia Health is bringing a groundbreaking tool in early detection of Alzheimer’s disease to the Northland. A new diagnostic test that detects amyloid plaque — abnormal protein deposits in the brain that can disrupt cognitive function and a defining feature of Alzheimer’s — represents a major breakthrough in care for a disease that affects more than 7 million Americans.. Regionally, this new test is only offered at Essentia’s downtown Duluth campus.

Waboose (Rabbit) is about 4 years old and is a friendly, kiss-y girl after she’s been around you for a few days. Although she looks thin, she’s muscular and wirey. She enjoys being held and hanging on to your hands while kissing you. She seems OK with a cat friendly dog and has always lived with other cats. Waboose is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. Like all of our cats, Waboose is INDOOR ONLY.
