Once again, the annual Gunflint Trail Canoe Races, a testament to the Gunflint Trails community's spirit and unity, were held at the Gunflint Lodge harbor on the south shore. This year, the event collectively raised more than $20,000 for the Gunflint Trail Fire Department, a remarkable achievement.

The excitement generated around the Lion’s Club Fish Toss can’t be understated, and the many hundreds of fans that line the sidewalks cheering on the throwers of fish oooh and ahh at the skill of these nimble athletes, appreciating the one and all, hook, line and sinker.

Sabrina Bains wins the $10,000 grand prize

The daughter of a local family, Sabrina Bains, was the winner of the Fisherman's Picnic Grand Prize, a moment that the entire community had been eagerly anticipating. The support was overwhelming on Sunday late afternoon when Paulina Backstrom (pictured above) pulled Sabrina's winning ticket from the Lions Club drum filled with raffle tickets. Sabrina, who lives in California, is the daughter of Satinder (Sam) Bains and his wife, the proud owners of the Marathon gas station and the Blue Water Café.

Cook County Schools to hold November Bond Referendum, provides detailed resources for voters

If approved by voters, the referendum would unlock $5 million grant to improve arts, athletics, and outdoor learning spaces at Cook County Schools On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, voters in Cook County School District will consider a $6.65 bond referendum to invest in the district’s performing arts center, outdoor learning environments, and athletics facilities. The district has launched an updated website, VikingsVision. org, to help keep the community informed about its upcoming referendum.
