With deadline approaching, DNR urges fish house owners to remove shelters from the ice
Most fish house owners in the southern two-thirds of Minnesota already have removed their fish houses from the lakes, given poor ice conditions and forecasted warm weather. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds anyone who still has a fish house on the ice to start planning for its removal.


North Shore Health Announces New VITREA 3D Imaging System
North Shore Health (NSH) announces exciting new capabilities in their Imaging Department with the new VITREA 3-D System recreations for computed Tomography (CT). The VITREA system takes a CT scan and creates a 3-dimensional picture of the selected area of interest.
Democracy on the West End, Township annual meeting March 12
GREGG WESTIGARD COOK COUNTY West End – Residents of Schroeder, Tofte and Lutsen all have their chance at grassroots democracy Tuesday, March 12, when each of the townships holds its annual meetings and elections. Each meeting starts at 8:00 p.m. at the town halls with the polls open for voting from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Superior National Forest Hires new Deputy Forest Supervisor
The Superior National Forest is pleased to announce the hiring of Drew Stroberg as permanent Deputy Forest Supervisor, previously held by Shannon Rische. Drew comes to the Superior NF as the previous district ranger on the Klamath National Forest and Butte Valley National Grassland-Goosenest Ranger District.
Update on the Cook County’s Capital Improvement Plan information session
At the recent Committee of the Whole Meeting on February 20, one of the agenda items was a Capital Improvement Plan Information Session. Two staff from CRBPS, the firm that developed the county’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for buildings, provided a review of the process that it and Cook County undertook to develop the plan. Then, they responded to questions posed by our county commissioners.

Northwoods volunteer connection welcomes new Executive Director
Northwoods Volunteer Connection (NVC), a nonprofit organization based in Tofte, MN, announces its new executive director, Joanna “Jo” Swanson. Since 2014, Northwoods Volunteer Connection—a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit— has been dedicated to recruiting, training, and delivering volunteers to work in and around the Superior National Forest of Minnesota.
