When Hungarian Eugene Fodor created his first travel guide in 1936… On the Continent, little could he know that his travel guides would one day contain destinations for tourists not to travel to. Today, Internet Brands owns and publishes the travel guide, and on the 2024 No List is Lake Superior.

County Board votes to approve Grand Portage’s request to the state to receive tax exemptions for tribal parcels used for public purposes

BRIAN LARSEN Commissioners approved sending a letter to the Minnesota Legislature to support a request by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa to receive tax exemptions for tribal parcels used for public purposes. Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Chair Bobby Deschampe, former Tribal board member John Morrin and Tribal Secretary/ Treasurer April McCormick appeared before the commissioners and presented 'Grand Portage Land History and Treaty Relations in Cook County.

Lutsen Resort fire update

Following the fire that destroyed the iconic Lutsen Lodge on February 6, questions have arisen about the cause of the fire. On Friday, February 9, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office put out a news release stating “The Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office and Cook County Sheriff’s Office want to notify everyone that the area of the Lutsen Resort main lodge is an official crime scene.” Later that day they corrected the news release explaining, “The cause of the fire at the Lutsen Resort Main Lodge is still under investigation.
