Grand Marais receives grant funding for the DNR’s ReLeaf program

The city of Grand Maris will receive $51,800 from the Minnesota ReLeaf Grant Program, a plan of action that aims to help communities achieve 'climate-resilient communities identified in the Minnesota Climate Action Framework by planting and maintaining a diverse and sustainable community tree canopy.” The goal is to reach 30 percent overall tree canopy cover in Minnesota communities by 2030 and 40 percent by 2050. The money will come from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) ReLeaf Community Forestry grants, 2023-2027--with no required local match. According to the DNR ReLeaf program, funds were given to “local units of government and non-profit organizations in Minnesota that encourage and promote the inventory, planting, assessment, maintenance, treatment, improvement, protection and restoration of trees and forest resources to enhance community forest health and sustainability, reduce atmosphere carbon dioxide levels and promote energy consumption.”
