Down Memory Lane

20 YEARS AGO OCTOBER 31, 2003 v The new power plant for Grand Marais came one step closer to completion last week when the first two diesel generators were installed at the new site at the west end of town. The large brightly painted diesel engines with generators connected to them were slowly lowered to their spots on the foundation of what will soon be a six-megawatt power plant to serve the city in emergencies.

Mother and son from St. Louis Park find the Moose Medallion

Courtesy of the Cook County Visitors Center The Grand Marais State Bank Moose Medallion Hunt was won by mother and son duo Jodi & Walter Lindskog, from St. Louis Park, MN. Walter is 11. It was hidden in the base of a lamppost near the Coast Guard Station on the parking lot island right by the green garbage can. It was found at about noon on Saturday. They won $100, courtesy Grand Marais State Bank, and 25 Moose Bucks to spend at participating businesses in Grand Marais.

Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Cook County Board of Commissioners

The Cook County Commissioners met this past Tuesday for a long but productive meeting. From November 6 to November 12, the county will join Operation Green Light to let veterans know they are 'seen, appreciated, and supported.” County Board Chair Ann Sullivan read the resolution out loud before commissioners voted for it.
