Public meeting to be held at Grand Portage State Park to discuss potential impacts of expanding and modernizing the Grand Portage Land Port of Entry

Public meeting to be held at Grand Portage State Park to discuss potential impacts of expanding and modernizing the Grand Portage Land Port of Entry Before an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared to analyze the potential impacts resulting from the modernization and expansion of the Grand Portage Port of Entry, the public is encouraged to attend and participate in a scoping meeting held to gather input on what resources are important to the public, which will determine the scope of the EIS. The site expansion will take place on approximately 2.34 acres, for a total footprint of about eight (8) acres.

Cook County Board

Representatives from the Cook County/Grand Marais EDA came before the Cook County Commissioners on Tuesday, September 26, to present their 2024 proposed budget and levy. While the EDA has the authority to levy and the budget is separate from the county budget, the commissioners must approve the levy before September 30, 2023.

Arrowhead Eagles celebrate 75 years of aviation in Cook County

The Arrowhead Eagles Aviation Organization held it’s annual fund raising event at Grand Marais/ Cook County Airport on September 16th. The fly-in and drive-in pancake breakfast is a tradition that welcomes community members and pilots to an open house at the airport in a large hangar. It’s a chance to see airplanes up close, talk with pilots and even take an airplane ride. Three local vintage airplanes were on display, a 1940 Piper J-3 Cub, 1946 Taylorcraft (which won the Grand Champion Award at EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh), and a 1958 Piper Tri-Pacer, along with numerous other aircraft, and a 1938 Stinson S-10 project.
