Fisherman’s Picnic wrap-up

It seems like yesterday the town was bustling with visitors combing tents full of merchandise just outside of the newspaper office, the sounds of Bingo call letters and numbers resonating through our office windows with shouts of Bingo, “We’ve got another Bingo but hold your cards while we check, “and music piped in from the harbor park coming through the open alley windows.

Cook County Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan is undergoing an update

Every five years, the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Planning (CHIP) require local public health agencies under the Minnesota State Statute to complete a plan. Cook County completed a draft of its 20232028 CHA and hosted a June meeting to gather community feedback on the report.

Rec Park revenues up

The Grand Marais Rec Park is a busy place this summer and with the Fisherman’s Picnic here, it will be even busier. While noticing that the occupancy was flat when compared to last July, Park Director David Tersteeg said “given our 3 percent rate increase year-overyear, the revenue was up 3 percent in July versus July 2022.

Two Cook County organizations were awarded grants from the Otto Bremer Trust

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Council on Aging received grants from the Otto Bremer Trust. The Clinic was awarded a $50,000 grant for the Oral Health Task Force program, which provides preventive and restorative dental care for youth aged 0-26, expectant mothers, and low-income seniors in Cook County and the Grand Portage Reservation.
