Grand Marais students need one tutor for extra support

Fewer than a third of students are achieving grade level-proficiency in reading and math With fewer than a third of Minnesota students achieving grade level-proficiency in literacy and math, one Math Corps tutor is being sought to serve in Grand Marais area schools and preschools beginning in August. “Those numbers seem really daunting, but the good news is we have a solution that works,” says Christine Fankhanel, Director of Minnesota Programs with Reading Corps, Math Corps and Early Learning Corps.

Minnesota DNR bans lead ammunition and tackle in some state parks and scientific and natural areas

Responding to a petition received on October 18, 2021, from Friends of Minnesota Scientific and Natural Areas, requesting that the state ban the use of lead shot and bullets and lead fishing tackle in Scientific and Natural Areas (SNAs) and Minnesota State Parks, the DNR announced it would allow the ban of nontoxic lead ammunition and fishing tackle in 57 SNAs.

Gunflint Trail RAISE Grant update

The Cook County Minnesota Highway Department announced an update on their solicitation for an IIJA Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant for the Gunflint Trail Improvement Project. There were four projects selected in Minnesota and Cook County was not one of them. All told the Department of Transportation received $15 billion in requests but only had $2.26 billion available.
