Local firefighters receive training

Nine dedicated area volunteer firefighters, including five from Grand Portage, two from Grand Marais, one from Lutsen, and one from Hovland, spent a full day at Horseshoe Bay in Hovland on Saturday, April 12, receiving training from instructors from Minnesota North College Customized Training Solutions in Hibbing.

March 2025 Lodging Tax Report

This is the March 2025 Lodging Tax Report from the Auditor's Office for January 2025 collections. The Visit Cook County Income Study shows that January collections were up 19% over 2024 and Fiscal-Year-to-Date collections are up 1.88%. As compared to fiscal year 19-20, January collections are up 17.7%.

If you attend my weekly yoga classes at the Cook County Community YMCA (Fridays at 11am and Saturdays at 8am), you may have noticed that I do not use any music during our practice. This is not because I am opposed to music with yoga. At home I almost always turn up the tunes for my flow! Rather, I have found the lack of music to be a way in which we can focus more deeply on the body and the breath.
