Violence Prevention Center Reschedules Film Fundraising Event
The VPC’s annual film fundraising event, Beyond the Reel, has been rescheduled for April 5th, after being postponed due to a winter storm.


Conservation Officer Tales
Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Cook County Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Hamilton Habitat Joint Press Release
The Cook County HousingandRedevelopment Authority submitted a grant application to the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation board on behalf of Hamilton Habitat for the extension of utility infrastructure to two sites that have been acquired, cleared, and prepared for future construction of two single-family homes in Grand Marais. On Friday, February 21st , the IRRR announced the grant proposal among a list of housing and economic development projects that were later approved on Tuesday, February 25th at the special IRRR board meeting in Saint Paul.

U.S. Senators Tina Smith, Amy Klobuchar Reintroduce Bill to Secure Critical Federal Funding for Northeastern Minnesota Counties
U.S. Senators Tina Smith (D-Minn.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) reintroduced their bill to provide critical federal funding for northeastern Minnesota counties hosting federal wilderness lands. Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties benefit from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) as a world-renowned tourist destination, but they also forgo property taxes and other potential revenue streams. The bill would restore fairness to the longstanding Thye-Blatnik payment system and prevent massive cuts in county revenue now or in the future.
