Grand Marais, MN. (2/7/2025)— Cook County University of Minnesota Extension will host a winter meet up for local farmers and agricultural producers in March.

Emily Westerlund was hired as a Cook County Assistant Attorney. She fills the vacancy created when Neil Pederson was promoted to fill the Cook County Assistant Attorney ll position.

Pruning apple trees during dormancy in winter is recommended to promote high quality fruit production. Learning how to properly prune apple trees gives growers the knowledge and skills to use pruning to maintain their desired tree shape and size, promote airflow and light to future fruit, and remove dead or diseased limbs. Local orchardists and backyard fruit growers are invited to attend a workshop on apple tree pruning in March.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report, a Subaru Forester was heading westbound on Highway 61 when the driver lost control at Mile Post 105 on snow-covered icy roads. The Subaru Forester rolled and came to rest on its side in the ditch. One person in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident was reported at 12:56 a.m. on February 2 near mile marker 105 on Highway 61.

Voting is now open on the list of finalists for the 2024-25 Name a Snowplow contest, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced today.
