Historic Cook County is Pleased to Introduce Catherine Mägi as its New Executive Director
Historic Cook County is pleased to introduce Catherine Mägi as its new executive director. Mägi started her professional career as a lawyer in Washington D.C. before changing her trajectory towards her passions, writing and history. Mägi became a professional writer and researcher for a nonprofit partner that supports Harpers Ferry National Park, which is located at the juncture of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, and was her home for over a decade. In addition, she managed an archive near the Antietam National Battlefield. Other notable accomplishments include serving four years on a tricounty heritage tourism board; participating in the U.S. 250th Anniversary planning commission; and advising county officials on historic preservation concerns in the face of modern development. Residents have not received mail since 2024; USPS leadership reportedly wasn’t aware before Congressional inquiry
U.S. Senators Tina Smith (D-MN) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) are demanding answers from U. S. Postal Servi ce Postmaster General Louis DeJoy after several Minnesotans in Cook County reported not receiving mail delivery since last year. Residents were also turned away from local post offices when attempting to retrieve undelivered mail. Minnesota-North Dakota District leadership reportedly didn’t know of the issue until Senator Smith inquired on January 8. On December 19, USPS staff assured the Senators that service in Minnesota was stable – a claim that is contradicted by the Cook County problems. The Senators are demanding answers on steps USPS plans to take to rectify the issue and prevent it from happening again.

Sam Usem joins the North Shore Health Care Foundation Board of Directors
Recently elected to the Cook County North Shore Health hospital board, Sam Usem has now become a member of the North Shore Health Care Foundation. Georgene Daubanton, Executive Assistant of the North Care Health Care Foundation had this to say about Sam.
