Wayne Force

Wayne Arlen Force, 81, of Lutsen, Minnesota, passed away on June 19, 2024 at North Shore Health with his loving partner, Lois, by his bedside. Wayne's stroke on December 6, 2011 left him bravely confronting health issues throughout the years. He was happy to call our cozy cabin on his beloved Lake Superior, home, for 11 years. Wayne was born in Fosston, Minnesota. He worked 40 years for the City of Bloomington, Minnesota while earning his civil engineering degree at the University of Minnesota. Always, Wayne's greatest aspiration was to spend as much time as he could on the North Shore. It revitalized his soul. Wayne is survived by his longtime partner, Lois Steven; his former wife, Kathy Corey; children, Julie Boyle (Cliff) and Craig Force; grandchildren, Nicole McMaster, Tim (Mary) Borman, Emily Boyle, Justen Force and Treven Force; great grandchildren, Brendan McMaster, Michael McMaster, Michelle McMaster and T.J. Borman. You will forever be missed and always in our hearts. 'Love is when the other person's happiness is more important than your own.' H. Jackson Brown, Jr. I am so blessed to have shared our lives, my darling Wayne. We wish to thank the Rose family, who have been so kind in helping Wayne know he mattered. Those kindnesses can never be measured. Mike would bring 'Wayno' fresh caught lake trout as he felt Wayne ought to be eating more fish. Wayne thought so, too. You were Wayne's fave, Mike. We are grateful for the assistance given us by Care Partners of Cook County who, with the many services provided, made it possible for us to stay together in our home and, gave us hope. We are thankful for the Lutsen First Responders; extraordinarily knowledgeable and empathetic people with first-class values. I am so grateful for the compassion you afforded Wayne during the countless calls responded to. Our home health nurse was our angel. As I wasn't able to get Wayne to the clinic, Traci Allen visited and examined Wayne to ensure he was doing well. And, she gav

James Plahuta

James Rudy Plahuta passed away 27 June 2024 leaving his wife, Jennifer, and his four children David Plahuta, his wife Amy; Caroline Mendoza and her husband, Jon; Jeffrey Plahuta and his wife, Natalie Garfield; Jake Plahuta; and Jim's granddaughter, Natalie. He is survived by three of his siblings: Dave Plahuta , Linda Griffin, Judy Reyes and her husband, Gil. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Mary Plahuta, and sister Diane Hausser and her husband, Don. Jim is probably known by most in Grand Marais as the gentleman walking (or being walked by) his giant black dog,Jesse, around town. Jesse was as much his child as his human children. He and Jennifer owned and ran the Outpost Motel for many years while lovingly raising Jeff and Jake in the Grand Marais community. After retirement, they moved into town to relax and enjoy retirement. Jim was very active in the rain garden restorations in town, volunteered every year to assist with taxes, took art classes with his sister,Judy, online and was becoming quite the watercolor artist. He never let a crossword best him, took great pleasure in renovating his house and building up the gardens around it, was an avid baker and never saw a sweet or baked good he could turn down. He really enjoyed construction and engineering projects and would watch every step of the highway renovation projects, the move of the yellow house, and monitored the bakery progress closely. Finally, he always made sure his children knew he was proud of them and that they felt loved, valued and respected. He was the kindest, most loving father, husband and sibling and will be greatly missed. Jim's family will have a celebration of life in Grand Marais on 12 October. For information, email Jennifer at jlplahuta@gmail.com.
