Jean Boostrom Blackwell Roberts, age 97, passed away on December 17, 2022. Jean was born January 3, 1925, at home on the west side of the Grand Marais harbor. She was the second of two children of Alec and Josephine Zimmerman Boostrom. In 1943, after graduation from high school in Grand Marais, she went to Chicago for training as a meteorologist for the federal government. This was during WW 2 and weather bureau stations were being established throughout the nation. She was assigned back to Grand Marais.
Elaine Marie Rabold, 79, of Grand Marais, passed away on Sunday, July 16th, 9 years to the day after her own mother, at North Shore Health in Grand Marias, MN surrounded by family. She was born November 29, 1943, to Axel and Sylvia (Helmerson) Haavisto in Duluth, MN.
Anthony “Shooter” Scalise (Knill) left his physical form on Saturday, July 1st and began making his way to the Spirit World. He was born April 25, 1964. He grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated from Duluth East High School. He moved to the twin cities shortly after graduation and began his drywalling career. He moved to Grand Portage in 2002 to raise his family. Tony loved spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a very talented man who enjoyed making traditional native crafts, dream catchers, pipe carving, and powwow regalia. He loved music and dancing. He raised a daughter and step-son and tragically lost an infant son at birth. People gravitated to him, and he was like a father to many. His oldest daughter
