Ask a Trooper

Question: Since I've moved to Minnesota, I've seen many drivers use right turn lanes as a bypass lane. Is this legal or does the sign reading 'lane must turn' mean exactly what it says? Answer: White signs are regulatory and failing to comply can result in a citation for “fail to obey traffic control sign/signal.” “Right Turn Lanes” are what they are posted for, not passing or bypassing.

White Otter The highlight of my summers is the Old Fogies Kayak Trip, and our twentieth didn’t disappoint. I’m thankful I can still fold myself into my kayak, sleep in a tent, and paddle miles every day.

President Biden supports military veterans

My brother was a Marine, deployed to Viet Nam 12 times. He died of agent orange. I miss him dearly. To me he is a hero. He was neither a “sucker nor a loser”, contrary to what the GOP candidate for President says. My brother’s application for VA benefits was “lost” two times. He died while filling out his third application. (See Project 2025, page 644) Thank heavens President Biden has seen to it that our military gets the benefits they deserve. Remember this while voting.

Pieces of Me

I love to write. I have a lot to say, or at least I think I do. I wish I had paid more attention in Mrs. Hansen’s English class back at good ol’ CCHS so I can write properly today. I remember back in grade school having to do SRAs for English class. Danny Renn, Misty Johnson and I kicked butt getting those stacks of SRAs whipped out. I remember us being so far ahead of most of our classmates that we didn’t have to do a few levels of them. Maybe if I had, I would know where punctuation goes today?

Outdoors with James Egan

For the want of a new pair of glasses there goes the boat I've been wearing glasses for about 35 years. Initially I didn't need to wear glasses – you know, for driver's license or driving - just mainly to see ducks in the fall at 60 yards and 200 yards and a quarter mile.

Stop the name-calling

In a recent Letter to the Editor titled 'Stop the name calling,' the writer focuses on the former president's name-calling and references that most people grow out of this stage by fifth grade, pointing to her experience as a former teacher. A retired teacher from Minnesota is running for a high office in government and must not have learned this lesson as he continues to call his opponents names.
