Preventing Repeat Drunk Driving
Believe it or not, some people in Cook County drink alcohol and/or use a drug and then drive. In Minnesota they are not alone.

We have a county levy proposal of 9 percent, add the hospital, school, special taxing districts, assessments and there is the City. There is a capitol improvement plan of $25 million someone has to pay for and a new assistant county attorney at (potentially) $128,000.
In early September, returning on the Gunflint Trail for the umpteenth time, I finally turned right on Old Ski Hill Road. Its entrance is shared with Cutoff Road, County 52; I had always said I should go west to see what was there. It turns out that though the ski hill is gone, there is plenty of there there, including 108 lots with named owners.
The season is fall. Leaves have begun to turn and periodically flutter in the breeze to the ground.
I love getting cards in the mail. Little surprises that friends and family are thinking of me. But like phone calls, it works both ways. If I want to receive cards, I need to send cards. I recently found an article called 15 cards you should write as soon as you can. My plan is to pick up a box of cards and start this project right away. The summer is winding down. Fall will soon be here and then, as we all know, short days and long winter nights. Cards will bring a cheeriness to our lives. Even with the cost of postage, the joy you will be sending is priceless.

We in Cook County have been applauded for our recycling efforts even though we’re among the few communities that still have to sort and deliver our own recycling. We are also proud to have three—yes, THREE—secondhand stores in our tiny community: First & Second Thrift Store, Oddz ’n Endz, and the Recycling Center.
The Acorn In the warmer months, I spend a lot of time in the backyard, often beneath the cooling shade of our giant oak tree. On occasion I’m sans shoes and socks.
As Cook County Attorney, I have requested approval in my 2024 budget to add an attorney to our staff of four, the first expansion in attorney office staff since general paralegal functions were added to make the Crime Victim-Witness Coordinator position full-time in approximately 2011. The last time attorney functions in our office were expanded was in 2002 when theAssistant CountyAttorney position went from part-time to full-time. While workloads have been expanding for our Office over the past several years, attorneys and staff were pushed to capacity in the past twelve months with a dramatic increase in the amount of serious criminal cases which were taken to jury trial.
