Girls play a tight match against South Ridge

The Cook County High School football team was shut out 38-0 by the Cherry Tigers last Friday in Grand Marais, and with the loss, the team’s record is 1-3 on the year, while Cherry went to 4-0 on the season.
The North Shore Storm boys' and girls' varsity teams faced stiff competition at the September 17 Paul Bauer Invitational meet in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. However, the girls' junior high team placed first, and the boys' junior high team took second. In all, 557 runners were entered in the various classes of races.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources maintains hunter walking trails as easy ways to travel by foot through wildlife management areas, state and federal forests, and other public hunting lands. Hunter walking trails wind through prime habitat for ruffed grouse, woodcock, wild turkey and deer. There are more than 600 miles of hunter walking trails located throughout the northern half of the state. Many of the trails are gated, allowing foot traffic only.
Minnesota’s youth deer season will take place statewide Thursday, Oct. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 20. The season coincides with statewide teacher workshops, so many Minnesota students don’t have school during the youth season.
The Cook County girls' volleyball team played several games over the last week, falling 3-1 to Northeast Range on September 19. With the loss the team’s record went to 3-3, and 2-2 in conference play.
The Cook County High School’s varsity volleyball team has been on a roll lately, winning three out of the last four games that they have played. Their latest win was over the McGregor Mercs, who came to town on Thursday, Sept. 12. Behind all-around great team play, the Vikings swept the Mercs 25-11, 25-17, 25-18.
Superior National Golf Course at Lutsen is partnering with presenting Cook County Home Center to deliver the 5th Annual Golf for the Good event in support of the North Shore Health Care Foundation on Friday, Oct 4 and Saturday, Oct 5.
Two evenly matched Vikings teams met on Friday night at Lyle Anderson Field, and one was surely going to win—and one would lose. Sadly, that was our Vikings team.
