Area coaches selected senior Amery Oberg for All-Conference honors. The CCHS centerfielder will play in the all-star fastpitch softball game that will be played in Duluth at Wheeler Fields on June 18, starting at 11 a.m. Amery will continue playing sports in college, but next year, she will leave her softball glove behind, take her tennis racket to UW Superior, and join the women's tennis team.

CCHS Senior Hunter Gomez, an outstanding shortstop and pitcher on the Viking’s baseball team, was selected as a Polar League All-Star. Hunter was also named All-Section for the 7th Section of the Minnesota High School League, Class A. As a Polar League All-Star, Hunter has been invited to play in the Polar League All-Star game at Wade Stadium in Duluth on June 18. Hunter has signed a scholarship offer to play baseball at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Over 650 cyclists bravely took on the challenge of one of three races held last Saturday as part of the Grand Du Nord gravel grinding event. The races, spanning 26 miles, 54 miles, or a grueling 110 miles, tested their endurance and determination.
One big swing changed the trajectory of the game, a game that featured the Cook County boys' varsity baseball team in their Tuesday, May 28, match against Mountain Iron-Buhl. Despite the Cook County boys' varsity baseball team taking a commanding 4-0 lead in the first inning and holding Mountain Iron-Buhl scoreless through four innings, the Rangers' one big inning was enough to secure a victory.
The very young Vikings boys and girls track teams headed to Mesabi East on May 23 to compete in the highly anticipated Subsections track and field meet, a crucial event that serves as a stepping stone to the State Championships. Both teams recorded some outstanding results, but no Viking had a better meet than CCHS Junior Kaleb Berka.
Girls on the Run held their practice 5k run on Sunday, May 19th on the Gitchi-Gami State Trail. Fifteen of the twenty-two participants along with their running buddies and coaches started and finished a fun run at Cut Face Creek Wayside.
BRIAN LARSEN The Cook County Vikings headed for their first Section 7A playoff game against Cherry on Monday, May 20, and fell to the number #4 seed 22-0 in four innings. The Cook County Vikings' girls' fast-pitch softball team, despite losing its last four games, has shown remarkable resilience, as pointed out by Vikings head coach Stacey Spry.
BRIAN LARSEN An always tough Esko team claimed the top spot in the boys' competition at the Polar League Conference track meet, while our Vikings, with their unwavering spirit, secured a commendable sixth place with 46 points out of ten schools. The Esko girls also showed their mettle, clinching the first position, while our Vikings girls, with their determination, secured the tenth spot with 27 points.
BRIAN LARSEN The Vikings baseball team traveled to Barnum on May 13 to face the always-tough Barnum Bombers baseball team. Our Vikings led 3-2 after the first inning and 4-2 after the third inning ended.
