One more plunge, one more tattoo

For Bryann Bockovich, the February 17th Polar Plunge in Duluth meant she would get her 14th tattoo to celebrate the annual event. This time, though, the journey to Duluth or the Twin Cities, where she has also taken part in polar plunges, would be a bit longer because the former Grand Marais resident now lives in Hudson, Florida.

Time to buy new hunting, fishing licenses

Now is the time of year for anglers and hunters to buy new fishing and hunting licenses. Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 2023 expire Thursday, Feb. 29. Licenses for 2024 are now available wherever fishing and hunting licenses are sold, online (mndnr.gov/ buyalicense) and by telephone at 888-665-4236. Online buyers can print the license or choose to receive a text or email that when displayed on a mobile device serves as proof of a valid fish or game license to state conservation officers.

State Bound!

Most cross country skiers dream of Blue Extra days. Those are the days where the snow is plentiful and the temperature is around 20F: perfect classic skiing conditions. Just apply a little Blue Extra wax to your skis' kick zone, and the skiing is easy. In a normal winter, we are typically blessed with many Blue Extra days here in Cook County. But this year, I don't think those words were ever uttered in the chalet when our high school skiers were choosing their wax. In fact for the last many weeks a new word has entered their lexicon: Klister.
