North Shore Storm cross country team performs well at Hibbing Rotary meet

The North Shore Storm varsity boys team placed seventh out of 24 teams at the Thursday, September 28 cross country meet held in Hibbing. “We were second as far as 'A' schools go,” said Head Coach April Wahlstrom, who added, “All the rest of the schools were AAA or AA in front of us!” The varsity girls 'are slowly on the mend and still dealing with a multitude of injuries, but lots of positive performances came out of the meet for them, too,' added Coach Wahlstrom.

Cook County Commissioners tour Superior National Golf Course

Cook County Commissioners held a special meeting on Thursday, September 21 to take a tour of the Superior National Golf Course. The tour was a follow-up after a July 18 Committee of the Whole meeting where representatives of the Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) and Superior National Board of Governors gave a status report about the golf course and discussed options for maintaining it into the future.

Cisco and whitefish sport netting to open on northern lakes

Recreational netting for cisco, also referred to as tullibee, and whitefish is open this fall on designated lakes. Whitefish and cisco sport netting is open to Minnesota residents only and about 700 Minnesotans participate each year. Netting schedules are based on expected water temperatures. As the water temperature cools, game fish head to deeper water while cisco and whitefish come to shallow water for fall spawning.

Vikings fall to Cherry in a lopsided game

The Cook County High School football team ran into a buzz saw last Friday when they traveled to Cherry, Minnesota, to play the unbeaten Cherry Tigers. The fewest points Cherry had scored in a game was 48 in their 48-12 win against Blackduck. And Blackduck's 12 points are the most any team has scored against the Tigers this year. The Tigers' biggest point total was an 80-6 win over Cass Lake-Bena 80-6.
