Dimitrov and Mehlhaff compete at the US Western High School Alpine championships
AlthoughtheMinnesota state high school alpine ski season ended several weeks ago, two local Cook County High School skiers, Goshi Dimitrov and Hans Mehlhaff traveled to the Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Wyoming to compete with Team Minnesota in the US Western High School Alpine championships.
Record numbers out for the CCHS track team
Despite the lack of an outdoor track & field facility, the Cook County High School track teams have seen a surge in participation, a testament to the determination and resilience of our young athletes.
Track team runs well at the Polar League indoor meet
The Cook County High School boys' and girls' track teams traveled to the University of Wisconsin Superior on March 21 to participate in a ten-team track meet. The boys finished sixth with 40 points, while Moose Lake/Willow River placed first with 124 points.


Swimming and Story-Crafting at Oshki Ogimaag
March 5 saw the completion of the second year of a successful four-week swimming- and-story-crafting program at Oshki Ogimaag Charter School in Grand Portage. The program is a three-way collaboration between Oshki Ogimaag, the Cook County YMCA, and Minnesota Children’s Press of Grand Marais.

Minnesota DNR hosts webinars on canoe fishing in the BWCAW
On Wednesday, March 26, join Scott Mackenthun, DNR area fisheries supervisor, as he talks about canoe angling in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Mackenthun will cover angling opportunities, fishing tips and tricks, and wilderness angling idiosyncrasies that can help people catch more fish.

Bonspiel results from the Charles J. Futterer Memorial Bonspiel
The Cook County Curling Club hosted the Charles J. Futterer Memorial Bonspiel this past weekend, a thrilling display of competitive spirit. Ten out-of-town teams, including Charles J. Futterer senior's children and grandchildren, were part of the 13-team roster. The event was not just about competition, but also about coming together as a community. As always, there were a lot of spectators behind the glass throughout the weekend, some of whom came to just say hi to family and friends and to watch some good curling. The Cook County Curling Club is in its final week of curling for the 2024-2025 season.
