On February 21st, 2025, I took on my first 29km race. The American Birkebeiner happens annually in Cable, Wisconsin, and has several different events. Some include the Kortelopet (29km), the Birkebeiner (50km), skijoring races, kids races, and lots more. This was their impressive 51st year of holding the races. It was my first year of being able to do the Kortelopet race (you must be 13 years old), and I chose to skate ski.
A senior guard, Denali Blackwell, has led the Vikings in scoring for the last several years. This season, Denali averaged 20.7 points per game. He was second on the team in rebounding with an average of 6.8 boards per game, second in steals with a 1.8 game average, third in blocks with 0.7 per contest, first in free throw average with 78 percent of his free throws scoring, first in 3-point shot percentage with 37 percent of his tries finding the bottom of the net, and he is a tough defender. Denali, a senior guard, was named First Team All-Conference for his outstanding play over the last year.
The Cook County High girls varsity basketball team traveled to Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) to play in the Section 7A round of Minnesota high school playoffs.
The Cook County high school boys’ basketball team traveled to Littlefork- Big Falls last Friday for a game, then stayed the night and faced the International Falls Broncos the next day.
