On a frigid Tuesday, February 18, representatives from the United States Forest Service, Department of Natural Resources, Lutsen Township, Lutsen Trailbreakers and others gathered for a significant event-the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Poplar River bridge that was washed out in May 2022. Sharon Hexum Platzer, a key figure in the community, had the honor of cutting the ribbon. This milestone was achieved after years of collective efforts, including fundraising, grant approvals, and acquiring multiple permits. The installation of the 66-foot bridge by Northland Contractors this winter marks a significant step forward. This bridge, which is a vital access point to Lutsen businesses, is located just a mile off a Forest Service Road. Photo courtesy of Sharon Hexum Platzer
