Donald Erickson, age 90, of Moose Lake, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
Born on December 31, 1934, in Eveleth, MN, Donald was the son of Chester and Olga Erickson. He grew up in Tofte, MN, and graduated from Cook County High School in 1953.
Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from [1957-1959]. After his military service, he enjoyed a 34 year career with Northwestern Bell. He and Jan eventually retired on Island Lake where they spent many happy years.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Janice (who he met on a blind date); daughters Anne Erickson and Michelle Zuniga (both of Fort Worth, TX); granddaughter Lauren Zuniga (New York, NY); and siblings Gene Erickson (Grand Marais, MN), Dorothy Gense (Vadnais Heights, MN), and Leslie Elza (Cary, NC).
Donald had a passion for the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, and dancing. On many Saturday nights, the sound of polka music could be heard around the lake, a joyful reflection of his spirit. He was also well known among friends for his homemade chokecherry wine. A devoted family man, Donald was his loved ones’ greatest supporter. He was a loyal friend and a generous volunteer, always willing to lend a hand and give his time to others.
Donald embraced life fully and lived each day with joy and purpose. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
