Donnie passed away on September 30, 2023 from kidney failure. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

She was born February 20, 1946 in Rockford, IL to Les and Merieta Engel and moved to Grand Marais with her family soon after.

Donnie was proud to be a 2nd generation of World’s Best Donuts. She loved living in Grand Marais her whole life and loved watching the younger generations, who lived here, grow up.

Donnie enjoyed her daily coffee with friends and family. She never felt she “set the world on fire”, but she enjoyed her life. She knit many, many pairs of socks over 40 years and even knit 100 pair for homeless veterans one year!

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Terry, her first husband, Big Joe Griffin (Jean), Willow AK, her sons Joe Griffin (Shelly) Thief River Falls, MN, and Jay Wilson (Sheila) Lake Park, MN, her sister Sherrie Lindskog, brotherin- law, Chet, nieces, Stacey Hawkins and family, Dee Brazell (Mickey) and family, along with 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Donnie had her Celebration of Life on January 7, 2023 at Up Yonder because she wanted to celebrate while she was still here! Her cremation was by Cremation Society of Duluth. Her final resting place is at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
