Dorothy Peterson

Dorothy Peterson, 94 of Hovland, Minnesota passed away January 20, 2024 at Waterview Shores in Two Harbors.

Born on October 18,1929 to John and Dolly Koss of Hovland, she loved and lived on the north shore her entire life. Dorothy grew up in a rustic cabin with no running water, doing homework by a kerosene lamp in a house heated by a wood stove. The cabin got modernized in 1951 with the addition of a telephone.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Peterson on September 8, 1951. Larry and Dorothy had two children Margaret Peterson and Lin Peterson (Susan), both of Lake Havasu, AZ.

Dorothy was a proud grandmother to Lance (Kayla) and Preston (Scarlett) Peterson, and loved her great grandchildren Landon, Cayden, Ledger, Maverick, and Hardin.

When Dorothy was asked how she was doing, she always answered, ‘I’m still alive’…and indeed she was. Dorothy gave up her motorcycle endorsement at the age of 93, went for a sailboat ride in the summer of 2023, and was fully in charge of her house a and her life until a couple of months before her passing.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland, and served the church community as the piano player for Sunday services, and shared the chores of maintaining the church with other members when they washed and waxed the church floor on their hands and knees.

Dorothy was preceeded in death by her parents, John and Dolly Koss, her brother Kenneth Koss, and her beloved husband Larry.

A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland on June 8, 2024. Services will be held at 11:00 with a luncheon to follow.

In leiu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Hovland to upgrade the current sound system.

The family also wants to express deepest appreciation and love for all the phone calls, letters, prayers, visits and support the community shared with Dorothy, and for us.
