June 6, 1955 — June 6, 2024 Grand Marais Eloise “Ellie” Christiansen, 69, of Grand Marais died suddenly on June 6, 2024 in Grand Marais.

She was born June 6, 1955 to Ronald and Dorothy (Nicolaison) Whipkey in Iowa City, IA. The family moved around quite a bit during Ellie’s childhood before settling in Grand Marais, where she graduated with the Class of 73. Ellie attended Vo-Tech in Wadena then returned to Grand Marais where she was employed as a cashier at several places including, Mabel’s Cafe, the Holiday Station store, Joynes Ben Franklin, and most recently at World’s Best Donuts. Ellie was a social butterfly and people person and was at her best talking with people and working with the public.

Ellie was a longtime member of American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her parents.

Ellie is survived by her husband, Dick; daughter Heather (Curly) Smith and their sons Logan and Hunter; step-sons, Mike Christiansen and his son Erik, Charles Christiansen and his children Ryan and Iylla, Mark Christiansen and his sons Brandon and Kameron; Brothers Craig and Bill Whipkey. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Ellie on Saturday September 28th at the Cook County Community Center from 2-4 p.m.
