Ed said the snowdrifts in this picture were about seven feet high. December of 1969 is considered the snowiest month in the state's history, and over two-thirds of the state reported 25 inches or more of snow. Only one day wasn’t cloudy, and climatologists reported snow fell 25 days. Along with the epic amounts of snow, the thermometer dipped well below 0 F, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce Administration Environmental Sciences Service weather bureau report; Duluth, Minnesota, recorded 46.8' of snow in January, making it a new record. As for Ed, he said he spent a lot of time shoveling snow off the roof of the house that winter.
