Robert ‘Bob’ Hertzberg

Robert (‘Bob’) H. Hertzberg, 96, of Grand Portage, MN, died on December 5, 2024, from complications of an auto accident. Born in Stamford, CT to Marian Hastings Hertzberg and Dr: Reinhold F. Hertzberg, Bob grew up in Stamford and Rowayton, CT, with summers spent in Maine with his grandparents and brothers. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. After serving in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Nary, he graduated with an MBA from St. Louis University.

In 1952, Bob married Edwina (‘Eddie’) Leaycraft. Over the ensuring ten years, they had 6 children. Throughout their 72 years of marriage, Bob and Eddie enjoyed many adventures togetheri including a recent cruise in Europe and a visit with old friends in England. Bob was a loving husband, a wonderful father and a great friend. He loved the outdoors and was a dedicated hunter and fisherman.

Employed by Cargill as Assistant Vice President of Cargo Carriers, lnc., he managed its boats and barges on the Mississippi River. Following his retirement, he served as Executive Vice President of the Upper Mississippi Watenruay Association.

Bob is survived by his wife, Eddie, and 5 children and their partners: Catherine vander-Schans (Mike), Pamela (Bob Bruere), Amy Keane (Steve), Greg (Julie), and Mimi King (Kelly), in addition to 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and daughter Nicole. A celebration of his life will be held in Grand Portage in summer 2025.
