The Happy Hikers will travel 40 miles up the Gunflint Trail to the Kekekabic Trailhead where the Centennial Trail begins on July 26. We’ve tried to do this hike the last two years, but have had to cancel due to rain or fire in the area. Hopefully, third time’s a charm! This 3.3-mile interpretive loop follows a historic railroad bed. It is the site of the ill-fated Paulsen Mine. Hikers will be able to see the original mine test pits from the 1890’s. The Centennial Trail was developed to honor the Superior National Forest’s 100th anniversary in 2009. An interpretive guide to the 14 stops will be available. Wellbehaved dogs are welcome, on a leash.
